Dear Jochen,
It depends on size of data in rich text control (description field/step control) of Workitems for example if you have images, tables, highlighted and bulleted data etc. It’s about “load, it’s not related to count of Work-items, it’s related to data contained in Work-items in terms of bytes. 100 work-items each having image and formatted text in rich-text-field is much heavier 1000 work-items without rich-data.
Secondly if you have the MS Office 32 bit on your machine because the office 32 bit won't get able to allocate more memory as compare to the Office 64 bit. Can you please confirm that do you have Office 32 bit, if yes than can you please upgrade it to 64 bit?
Workaround: Please fetch your data in chunks rather than in one go.
If you have any other question, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help. And have a fantastic day.
Thank you,
Ali Khan

Dear Ali,
you are right, we are dealing with large Images. With a 64 bit Word 2016 it works. I've tested it in a VMWare But in our company the IT allows only a 32 Bit Word.
Why does word4tfs under the hood not using your Workaround an fetches one workitem after the other?
